The third edition of the Extrajoss Football Championship will kick off on Monday in the five divisions of Lagos State.
According to the Country Manager, Kalbe International, the event sponsors, Didik Novandi, the company would continue to improve the standard of the competition yearly.
He said, “We believe that sport is an avenue to build the youths of the country and the best way to go about it is to partner with the government in their youth empowerment drive.”
“This competition will also produce football stars for the state and the country at large,” he added.
This year’s winner will get N1m while the first and second runners-up teams will go home N500, 000 and N300, 000 respectively.
Novandi said that the company had supported table tennis in the past with the Procold Championship, adding that the idea of supporting football was borne out of their interest in the youth of Nigeria.
He however, affirmed the company’s commitment to grassroots sports development, which he said would help Nigeria to unearth more football stars.
Coordinator of the competition, Ola Okunnu said with the kick-off of the divisional qualifiers, 16 teams are expected to emerge for the knockout stage scheduled for October 20 at the Campos Stadium. Epe, Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja and Lagos Island are the divisions that will host the qualifiers, which will start on Monday in Epe.
